feels like kind of a cop out to say they're hate comes from nothing. I mean we've already seen plenty of reasons for them to hate humans but the only argument the fishman pirates get is "just because". Also drugs.

I think it's fitting for a guy with no purpose to do things just cause. The reasons other fishmen would have isn't relevant because he is a sociopath and doesn't care. You think someone fighting with a purpose would nearly wipeout his own species while claiming to be fighting for them?

Kind of felt it was a given they were just plain evil when we saw Hody and his team as kids.

Fish man island is secluded from the outside world and the kids were only able to view and gain such little knowledge about it. They only heard what the fish man pirates stood for but never experienced any true hardships besides living in the fish man district. Hody became a soldier just so he can learn to fight though I kind of doubt assassinating the queen was on his mind until he realized her goals were reachable.
He's not the most unbelievable character, there are plenty of people that use such little knowledge for their own form of twisted justice, and nowadays you have kids with access to the internet that will use that little knowledge to do horrendous acts.

so pretty much he's a psychopath who manifest from all years of fishmen hatred towards humans for the cruelty they received. unlike most who some sort fuel for their agony and anger, the "NewFishMen" don't.
